Abstract

Due to a variety of factors that motivated multiple creativities, modification of poly(vinyl chloride) chemical structure has become a flourishing area of research. The current study acts as a condensed overview of the improvements produced using various methods for adjusting the characteristics of poly(vinyl chloride) that is widely utilized. This study explains and emphasizes, through a brief discussion, the findings of the efforts made in recent decades, even if it does not address all of the issues at hand. The article covers a special linkage to the polymer chemical structure such as using heterocyclic moieties to modify poly(vinyl chloride), C–N linkage through biomaterials, C–S linkage, C–O linkage, and C–Hal linkage. As recently, there has been a lot of interest in the photo-stabilization of plastic polymers in an effort to develop effective means of preventing their photochemical deterioration. Polymers are given additives to enhance their functionality and mechanical and thermal characteristics. This paper has reviewed the recent UV absorbers in the literature as they are crucial for capturing damaging light radiation and dispersing it into safe thermal energy Additionally, they prevent the development of free radicals, which are created during the initial phases of deterioration. The physical and mechanical characteristics of materials, such as their tensile strength, elasticity, and substance for elongation, as well as their resistance to heat, environmental conditions, and other applicable features, were also discussed in this short review. The article ends with an assessment of the enormous potential and bright prospects for the future of poly(vinyl chloride).
