Information for Authors

About the Journal

AJSES is an open-access international, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality, original research. To gain insight into the journal's thematic and peer-review guidelines, please refer to its Aims & Scope section. The Open Access property of AJSES ensures that your research becomes freely available online upon publication, facilitating widespread access and enabling readers from diverse backgrounds to explore and cite your work. It is important to note that AJSES exclusively considers manuscripts in English, focusing on original researchers and reviews.

Language

Manuscripts should be crafted in clear and concise English. Authors who are not proficient in idiomatic English are encouraged to seek assistance with manuscript preparation before submission. Reviewers are not anticipated to rectify grammatical errors, and any shortcomings in this regard could potentially impact the scientific content of the paper, leading to delays in acceptance or, in some cases, rejection.

Types of Articles

The journal seeks to publish the following:

  1. Original papers: The original research that focuses on highlighting the results of scientific inquiry in engineering sustainability.
  2. Review articles: Typically limited to fewer than 10,000 words, these articles feature an unstructured abstract and encompass current references. Reviews include meta-analyses and emphasize the instructional significance of the content.

Before Submission

Please ensure that your manuscript adheres to the following criteria:

  1. Your work should be original and not previously published or currently under review by another journal or conference proceedings.
  2. Ensure compliance with all research ethics standards, with a dedicated section on "Ethics Approval" if your work involves human or animal subjects.
  3. The manuscript should demonstrate acceptable English language proficiency, being free of grammatical and spelling errors.
  4. Edit your manuscript according to the AJSES template (Manuscript Template).
  5. Confirm that your figures are of satisfactory quality and uploaded as separate files.
  6. Format your references accurately, numbering them as they appear in the text. Clearly indicate the reference style used.
  7. Only submit manuscripts that meet the aims and scope of the journal; manuscripts of sufficient quality will undergo review.
  8. Ensure that your manuscript adheres to the guidelines specified below for the journal.

Preparation of Manuscripts

Authors are required to submit their manuscripts to the editorial office as Word files (Word 2007 or higher) through the online Manuscript Tracking System. Manuscripts containing mathematical content may also be submitted in LaTeX.

The original manuscript should be formatted with double line spacing, utilizing Times New Roman fonts (12 pt), and fully justified on both the right and left. The text should be presented in a single-column format with justified margins. Authors are encouraged to use boldface, italics, subscripts, and superscripts where applicable.

To minimize errors, it is strongly recommended that authors employ the "spell-check" and "grammar-check" functions of their word processing software. Continuous line numbering must be applied throughout the text, and all manuscript pages should be numbered.

Equations should be created using the equation editor or MathType. Tables should be generated using the table function.

For headings, utilize the decimal system with no more than three levels, such as 1., 2., 2.1, 2.1.1, etc.

Online Submission

Submission of manuscripts should be carried out by one of the manuscript's authors through the online Manuscript Tracking System (MTS), adhering to the instructions provided on the screen. Only Word (.doc, .docx, .rtf) files are acceptable for submission via the MTS, and there is no specified page limit. Submissions from individuals other than the authors will not be considered. The submitting author assumes responsibility for the manuscript throughout the submission and peer review process.

Initial evaluation

The Editorial Office will conduct a thorough review of all submitted manuscripts to ensure proper preparation and adherence to the journal's ethical policies. Additionally, all submissions will undergo screening for potential plagiarism using iThenticate software. Manuscripts that do not align with the journal's ethical standards or fail to meet its criteria will be rejected prior to the peer review process. Incomplete manuscripts not conforming to the recommended style will be returned to authors without undergoing scientific review.

Following these initial assessments, the Editorial Office will seek the guidance of the journal's Editor-in-Chief to evaluate the manuscript's alignment with the journal's scope and its scientific validity. Manuscripts lacking sufficient priority for publication will be promptly declined. It is essential to present your text in clear and proficient English, with American usage accepted. The Editor reserves the right to reject a manuscript based on inadequate language quality, and such decisions will be validated by the Editor-in-Chief at this stage.

Submission Declaration and Verification

When submitting an article, it is understood that the described work has not been previously published (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture, or an academic thesis), is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and its publication is approved by all authors as well as tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was conducted. Furthermore, if accepted, the article will not be published elsewhere in the same form, whether in English or any other language, including electronically, without the written consent of the copyright holder. As a measure to ensure originality, all manuscripts submitted to AJSES undergo screening using Crossref Similarity Check Powered by iThenticate to identify any instances of plagiarized content.

Additionally, changes made should be clearly marked, either underlined or in colored text, within the article.

After acceptance

After acceptance, your article will undergo typesetting in the production process. Once the typesetting is complete, you will receive the proofs for review.

Peer Review

The journal upholds the highest standards of peer-review integrity. Upon receipt, each manuscript undergoes an initial evaluation by the editor to determine its suitability for the journal. Manuscripts may be rejected if they lack sufficient originality, exhibit serious scientific flaws, require substantial language improvement, or fall outside the scope of the journal.

Manuscripts deemed suitable by the editor are then sent to a minimum of two external peer reviewers to assess the scientific quality of the paper. The review process follows a single-blind model, where the names and information of the reviewers remain confidential to the author. Editors make decisions based on the reviewers' reports, and authors receive these reports along with the editorial decision on their manuscript.

Authors should be aware that even with a positive report, concerns raised by another reviewer could critically undermine the study and lead to the rejection of the manuscript. This ensures a thorough and rigorous evaluation process to maintain the journal's commitment to scholarly excellence.

Supplementary materials

Authors can publish online supplementary files along with their articles or book chapter. Each supplementary file should include an article title, journal name, authors' names, affiliations, and email address of the corresponding author. supplementary files will be published as received from the authors without any conversion, editing, or reforming.

Article Publishing Charge

There is no Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication of the journal on all submissions.
